That’s usually the response by most non-CrossFiters when they are asked what they think about CrossFit.
And I get it! Barbells flying over your head is scary and looking at any professional CrossFit Games athlete can be intimidating.
When I speak about CrossFit I usually hear 1 of 2 comments: “ Those athletes are so bulky- I don’t want to look like that” or “I could NEVER do what they’re doing”.
My reply to the first statement is simply this: That’s okay. My goal isn’t to make you “bulky” or get you to look like Rich Froning. Professional CrossFit athletes eat, sleep and breath training for hours each day and it’s their job to look the way that they do. What they do is just on a different level.
What we do at Carousel CrossFit is use Functional Fitness to help you live your strongest life, whatever that means to you, so you can feel better, move safely and have more energy overall for your life outside of the gym. And if you DO want to be as strong as possible and compete? Our program and trainers will support those goals, too.
My response to the second statement is: you truly do not know what you can do until you step outside of your comfort zone. That is half the fun of walking into a gym where everyone around you in class is balancing upside down against a wall for the first time. Or jumping onto a 20 inch box where 3 months ago they didn’t think they’d get higher than 12 inches. Or maybe it’s even getting their first strict pull up after not being able to even hang from the rig at first.
So my point is this: CrossFit can be scary, until you walk into a gym and realize that every single person there has been in your shoes. Every person there has felt scared. But every person there has also surprised themselves with what they’re capable of and then thought to themselves “that really wasn’t so scary after all”.
