Happy November, Carousel Fam! This month we’re proud to highlight Derek Lynch as our member of the month. Derek- it’s been a pleasure training you in class and we love all of the progress you continue to make and the good vibes you bring to every class. Keep it up!
How long have you been a member at Carousel CrossFit and why did you decide to join?
I’ve been a member for about three months. I joined because I was looking for a new fitness challenge and fitness community.
What is a typical day like for you outside of the gym?
Right now I am busy working on a “second act.” I paused my career in sales and marketing and enrolled in the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMCA) to become a Certified Health and Wellness Coach (FMCHC). I plan to use my experience, knowledge and health journey to help those who are interested in achieving optimal health and wellness.
What do you enjoy most about Carousel CrossFit?
I enjoy the challenge of learning new movements and especially enjoy and appreciate the personal coaching by the trainers.
What is your favorite movement?
Burpees…just kidding! I can’t say I have a favorite right now, but I’m working on achieving my first kipping chest-to-bar pull up.
Do you have any tips for anyone who is interested in starting CrossFit?
I’d say give it a try. There is nothing to fear. The trainers are here to make sure you use the correct form and all of the exercises can be scaled to your skill level. As an added benefit, it is a very supportive community – all ages, all skill levels. You will get a great workout and enjoy the camaraderie.
Your proudest CrossFit accomplishment is:
I am proud to complete any WOD that includes running. Needless to say, I’m not a runner.
Tell us something that we don’t know or would be surprised to learn about you:
I lost 18 pounds in the last year and improved my A1c from the prediabetes range to the normal range through diet and High Intensity Interval Training.
