The CrossFit Open is something we all dread but look forward to each year. It is used as a test of our fitness at a given point in time – This year, that time is October. Coming up on the 10th Open season, we now have an idea of what to expect during the Open: Burpees in some form, classic couplets, and most workouts will be in the 8-12 minute time domain.
What does this mean for us?
We’re just about 5 weeks out from the start of the Open, so we want to start targeting our workouts to resemble the kind of workouts and movements you’ll see throughout the Open. We spent our last cycle on some longer workouts and building an engine – now we’ll focus on shorter time domains and more anaerobically taxing workouts and movement combinations.
During our “Open Prep” Cycle we will focus on the following:
- Classic CrossFit movements – i.e. burpees, double unders, cleans/snatches, pull-ups/C2B, toes-to-bar, rowing, and wallballs
- Shorter couplet and triplet workouts
- Pairing a taxing cardio movement with gymnastics skills
- Barbell cycling
We will also be featuring an Open WOD from past years at some point during each week. If you’ve done the Open in the past, use these to compare your scores to previous years and if you’ve never done the workout, you can use BTWB to see where you stand among others in your age group and division!
As always, scale for your fitness level and ability, and ask our coaches if you have any questions about the movements or intent behind the workouts. We will be doing something special for the Open, so be on the lookout for more info!
